Nice article, but reflects North American reality only. In other parts of the world, including West Europe, dairy products are NOT regularly fortified with Vitamin D, so there are practically no food sources for it. If you don't live in the USA, you have to rely on either sun exposure or supplementary pills to get enough Vitamin D.

I cannot agree with you more on the vegetables. I have changed my diet the last 4 months and broccoli, carrots and asparagus have been a staple and I have been feeling great! More energy, less gas and less joint pain which I think is also from losing 20lbs. Also I've noticed that after giving the veggies a chance for 2 weeks they actually started to taste better and I had less cravings for the sweet stuff.

It all goes back to something my health/home ec teacher taught in Jr. High - Eat a Variety. She used to pound this into our heads. It wasn't as important to eat Spinach, or broccoli, or chicken, or any one particular item as it was to eat a variety of items to get the nutritional value of each.
