I find that activated charcoal capsules work very well, are natural, and as far as I am aware are vegan. One thing to keep in mind is that charcoal absorbs EVERYTHING, including medications and vitamins. Best not to take charcoal with your vitamins or medications.

Great podcast. I started eating healthy/lots of vegetables a few years ago and definitely had some difficulty adjusting. But the problems did go away. (I'm a scientist and have my own nutrition blog now - summertomato.com)

I was surprised to hear you say GasX doesn't work. Personally I have found it to be the only thing that works. And what is nice is you can take it after you realize you have a problem (I cannot predict 100% of the time what will cause gas) and it saves the day.

On the other hand, I have Beano to be less effective no matter when I take it--but my problems only come from vegetables, never from beans. I wonder if maybe I have different issues than most people?

I think this is an important thing to discuss though. Robert, I hope you start eating vegetables again!

Angelina, look for a product containing the enzyme alpha-galactosidase, which specifically targets the sugars in beans and other vegetables.

I am glad to ehar I am not the only one that suffers from instestinal gas. What a discomfort. I actually have stopped eating vegetables and beans because of it. There has to be something I can use beside beano when I eat. Can Beano be used for vegetables?

Your podcasts are great. Can you do one everyday? You have changed my thinking on nutrition because things you say actually make sense. I quite eatign 6 times per day and I drink coffee in the morning instead fo my 8 bottles of water without guilt. Thanks

What is your opinion of alternatives to Beano? Many vegetarians/vegans avoid this digestive aid as it contains fish gelatin.

Health food store shelves are lined with quite a slew of 'plant-based' and 'full-spectrum' digestive enzymes. Do you know how these compare with Beano? Are there ingredients we should look for in these products?

Thanks! Spectacular show!
