If you choose to drink alcohol, moderate consumption can lower your risk of heart disease and increase your life expectancy. It doesn’t matter what kind of alcohol you drink--although red wine does offer some added benefits. But it’s very important to get the amount right. Having more than one (for women) or two (for men) drinks a day shortens your life expectancy. A drink is one 5-ounce glass of wine, a 12-ounce bottle of beer, or a 1.5 ounce shot of hard liquor. For a reality check, get out the measuring cup next time you’re mixing. And for even more tips, check out my episode on alcohol consumption.
